In 2006, SMS Millcraft LLC became a wholly-owned subsidiary of SMS Holding GmbH, headquartered in Dusseldorf, Germany, the holding company of the SMS Group of internationally renowned companies. The SMS group companies provide plant construction and mechanical engineering for steel, aluminum and nonferrous metals and press and forging operations throughout the world.

The SMS group is divided into two business areas:
SMS Siemag (formerly SMS Demag)--Steelmaking and continuous casting technology; hot and cold rolling mills; strip processing lines; and long-product minimills
SMS Meer--Tube, long products and copper plants; and press, forging and induction technology

It employed more than 9,000 people worldwide in 2010.

SMS Millcraft is part of the SMS Siemag business area. In March 2009, SMS Demag changed its name to SMS Siemag.

Some of the better known companies in the SMS group are Concast, Siemag, SMS Meer, SMS Elotherm and Hertwich Engineering. Combined, these companies are a single source for metallurgical expertise, integrated plant and equipment designs and innovative production solutions.

In 2010, the total order intake of the SMS group was 2,931 billion EUR, compared to 2,341 billion EUR in 2009. Sales for 2010 was 3,036 billion EUR, compared to 3,891 billion EUR in 2009.
